道路を渡るには度胸と俊敏さが必要のタイ / It needs to risk my life to cross a street in Thailand.

どがして渡っだえ? (←鳥取弁 / どうやって渡るんだ?) / How can I cross a steet?

There is a small grocery store I often use, it takes 5 minutes on my foot; google map says it’s 130m and 2min on foot.

But it took more than 5 minutes when I first came to this city.
Because I could not cross a street. There is a three-way junction which has cross‐walks and doesn’t have any push buttons within this 130m, to cross the street needs lots of guts and high skills.

On the three-way junction, the traffic is terrible.
Even though cars and motorbikes stop by a traffic jam on a lane, the other lane still has moving cars and motorbikes. In addition, there are tons of turning right cars, too.
Cars are passing endlessly.

How can I cross the street??

When I cross the street, I pray that any cars will not hit me, and run.
It’s only the way.



With respect to Thai, they are crossing the streets without any difficulty.
When I saw it the first time, I was very surprised,

“how do they do it??”

I was moved.
Almost Thai people have hight skills of crossing.

Google map によると約130m。（Google では徒歩2分らしい）

しかしだ。この「徒歩5分」が最初の頃はもっと時間がかかっていた。
なぜなら、 道が渡れない。 スーパーまでの130mの間に、横断歩道はあるが信号の無い丁字路がひとつあって、これを横切るにはハイテクニックと度胸が必要なのだ。

この丁字路。とにかく、車とバイクの流れが途切れない。
混雑して手前の車線で車が止まっても、停まった車をバイクがスイスイ追い抜いて走っていくし、反対側の車線からも、もちろんガンガン車が走って来るし、さらに右折車も凄まじい。
右を見ても車。左を見ても車。
両方の車線で同時に車とバイクが停まることは絶対に無いのだ。

さて、どうやってこれを渡るのか?

走ってくる車が自分を跳ねないように祈りながら、車とバイクの間をちゃかちゃか小走り。
これしか無い。



ところでこの命がけの道路横断、タイ人の歩行者の人はどうしているかというと、→ 車がビュンビュン向かってきていようが、バイクが突っ込んでこようが、普通にすらーっと渡る。

なのだ。
ありゃぁーどういうこっちゃなのか、さっぱりわからない。

「まじかよ。」

と、最初の頃はタイの人のスゴワザに、呆然と見とれていた。

横断歩道に人がいたら車が停まる日本って、すげぇ親切だなぁ。と実感。
さらに、人間って周囲が親切じゃないと、超絶たくましく進化するもんなんだな。と、感動したりもして。

車は左通行のタイ / Cars Keep to the left side in Thailand

Cars are driven on the left-hand side of the road in Thailand, it’s the same as Japan.

タイもマレーシアや日本と同じく、車は左側通行。

「丁字路」 は、最近 「T（ティー）字路」 とも言うらしい。
じゃぁ、十字路は 「プラス字路」?　いや 「クロス字路」か??
